Help your students learn about features of non-fiction books (table of contents, illustration, caption, photograph, and index) and write a non-fiction report with this great group activity!
Students will create a non-fiction book by using the templates and graphic organizers included in this activity pack. Students will research, (you determine the topic) write a three paragraph report including an illustration or photograph with a caption, make a title page for their book, create a table of contents, and make an index. When all of the pages are put together, each student will have a non-fiction book written by themselves and their classmates!
Included in this activity pack are:
*Directions for use
*Graphic organizers to help students organize topics and subtopics
*Title page template
*Final draft templates (with lines for title and author, with lines and box for illustration and caption lines, with lines only)
*Table of contents template
*anchor charts/posters about these features: table of contents, index, photograph, illustration, and caption.
This group activity can be completed with a small group of students or your entire class!
I hope your class loves completing this project. My students last year LOVED this project, and they felt such ownership when they saw the completed book. This is a great project to set out at open house; the parents loved it, too!
