This is a protein modeling activity (several suggested modeling options included) that focuses students on the details of the primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structural levels. Students imagine that they have discovered a novel protein which they then build, fold, and bond to form a 3-dimensional model. Students must present their protein, including the assigned name and proposed function, to the greater scientific community (i.e. their classmates) via poster, presentation, article, etc. The lesson includes detailed guidelines, color photos of model exemplars, a poster exemplar, and a rubric for grading.
