Using this template, students can practice Mendelian genetic trait determination, as well as discuss how environmental factors can trigger genetic changes. This works really well with discussions of the major motion pictures that are coming out about superheroes and how they got that way. This lesson allows for students to determine 20 potential super powers, if they're heroes or villains, if they have extra powers based on outside factors, and other things. After that, students get to write their own backstories and illustrate their heroes. Extension activities could include writing a theme song, dressing as their character or creating their superhero signal for the night sky.
