This is a great summative assessment after a unit on fractions. This file includes student directions, rubric, and template that students use along with a PowerPoint that shows an example product. In this assessment students have to create their own flag of a country of their choice and then explain the size of each section of the flag in terms of fractions. There are clear guidelines that are spelled out and can easily be differentiated to be more challenging or made easier . This is fun interdisciplinary connection between both math and social studies. It also makes for a great bulletin board display as you can hang up all of the creative flags after they are turned in and graded!
