Does your school provide students with digital devices that they take home at night? Do you have parents asking how they can keep their children safe on those digital devices at home? With all the technology available to our students, we may be doing a good job teaching digital citizenship at school, but are we educating our parents to do the same at home? CREATING A POSITIVE AND SAFE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT FOR YOUR FAMILY is designed to help teachers get that digital citizenship message across to parents. The presentation introduces parents to social media, YouTube, and cell phone use by kids. It tells parents how to become good digital parents, including how to talk to your kids about technology use at home, setting up ground rules, following your kids on social media, and how to be a good digital role model. Parents are also introduced to some good educational apps for their families, and shown some apps they will want to know more about if their children are using them. This PowerPoint can be presented to parents at Family Technology Nights, during parent teacher conferences, or during other family events. A free reproducible sheet is available to give to parents after the presentation. It has links to the materials in the presentation so parents can look up whichever resources they need for their families.
