Used in a writing class for middle schoolers, this chart was an immediate hit. We began by using the short story "My Rotten Red-headed Older Brother" by Patricia Polacco and filling out the chart together for the main character. Students then used this chart as well as a drawing or magazine picture of their character to create their own unique character. Students returned to this method many times to help them build interesting characters. The chart begins with prompts for emotional and physical descriptions of their characters, and then leaves plenty of room for them to continue brainstorming. This would also work as a great way to understand characters in literature!
