Writing a biography falls under the auspices of informational writing. This particular, 17 page, printable packet focuses on the structure of a biography together with the use of transition words to help the children to further develop their writing skills. There is also a look at creating bold beginnings, as an introduction to this genre of writing. The aim is to create a multi-paragraph, expository writing piece that tells the story of a person who is or was alive. I used two revolutionaries, Susan B. Anthony and Sir William Wallace with this lesson since we were focusing on the central idea of revolutions. However, you can fit this to suit any subject you are studying. I used this as a lesson with my 5th grade class but it can be adapted to suit 3rd and 4th grade also.
I have a FREE PowerPoint within my store to introduce the skill as a lesson. You can edit this as necessary. The PDF provides materials to use along with the initial lesson.
