This is a 3 page lesson plan and a 3 page handout for students (or you can print it and use it as your overhead). The handout is a student friendly version of the lesson plan. It includes the independent reading / reading log focus for the day (should you opt to use it), the aim, the do-now, a little organizer and space for the do-now response, the key points from the mini-lesson (including definitions, etc), and even pivotal questions, and the summation.
The lesson plan itself is incredibly detailed. It even includes the expected responses to the do-now question. Also, the lesson is COMMON CORE ALIGNED and includes modifications if you are teaching in a classroom with special needs.
This lesson, in particular, is to teach how to create a narrow and debatable claim. This lesson can follow the lesson I also have available (on how to create claims) or it can stand alone. You can use this lesson with virtually ANY text you are reading in class.
I hope you thoroughly enjoy this lesson and the handouts (which I always use as overheads). Enjoy!
