The students will be able to understand that literature and art reflect the many characteristics of a culture. Students will observe a teacher model of how to create a story, and how certain key words can be transformed into images or pictures (specifically, ones used by Native Americans) to tell them same story. Students will then create their own story, making sure to incorporate these key words. Afterwards, students will create their own Native American scrolls using images, and thus reflecting the same story they had written. This has always been one of my favorite lessons and students absolutely love it.
