Students are told to create a simile or metaphor that best represents who they are as individuals. Students will construct this analysis following a provided template. Teachers will take up student create simile/metaphor and will then pass them back out at random. Now other students in the class will analyze the random simile or metaphor from a classmate and they will then analyze what they thought the simile or metaphor meant. The teacher will choose specific examples and compare them side-by-side to showcase to students that there are often several interpretations in English class, and that many of those interpretations are acceptable as long as you provide great detail to support your thoughts.
