**PLEASE NOTE THAT STUDENTS SHOULD ALREADY KNOW THE DEFINITIONS OF THESE ROOT WORDS!!**
In this activity, students can use their knowledge of prefixes and suffixes to create new words based on the root words that are provided. Each worksheet has a total of three new roots along with a word bank for prefixes and suffixes. Students are asked to create new words using a prefix, root, and suffix and then, using their knowledge of prefixes and suffixes, and the given root meaning, come up with what they think is the correct definition. Once this part is completed, students look up the words they have created and write down the correct dictionary definition and judge how close they came. They grade themselves using happy faces or sad faces and tally them up at the bottom of the worksheet.
This activity reinforces prefix and suffix skills, English language connections to other languages, analytical thinking, comparisons, and research skills.
There are six worksheets in this packet that use the same prefix and suffix wordbank and the same format.
Root Words Covered: scrib, tract, sent, mit, spir, duct, sume, ten, port, struct, voc, cogn, ject, tend, tort, fer, sequ, nov
