A visually engaging PREZI presentation with several group and individual activities to accompany units on THE HUNGER GAMES, THE GIVER, 1984, UGLIES, BRAVE NEW WORLD, FAHRENHEIT 451, THE MAZE RUNNER, CITY OF EMBER, THE BAR CODE TATTOO, or any other dystopian novel.
If you haven't used PREZI before, it's a web-based presentation software that allows you to created zooming productions. Instead of clicking from slide to slide like in PowerPoint, PREZI uses one large canvas and then you zoom in on individual photos, videos, or pieces of information.
In this PREZI lesson plan, students will study the definition and origins of dystopian literature, how fictional dystopias are usually created, as well as common themes and story elements in dystopian fiction.
This download comes with the following resources:
PREZI Presentation - an 85-slide presentation packed with great information, examples, and visuals
PREZI Study Guide - a two-page worksheet to help students engage with the information presented in the PREZI
"Creating a Dystopia" Group Activity - students work together to imagine how a dystopia might be formed and to discuss lessons that could be learned from their imagined dystopia
"Creating a Utopia" Group Activity - students work together to create their own perfect society, learning by discovery how difficult perfection is and why fictional utopias almost always become dystopias
A Teacher's Guide - with ties to Common-Core Standards, suggested lesson plans, and tech instructions for running the PREZI
Note that PREZI requires an updated FLASH PLAYER to run.
