This assignment supports what students have learned in class about creating a written language and cuneiform by offering a chance for students to first put themselves in the mindset of a translator, helping them to understand how important writing was and what kinds of things were written down at that time, then allowing them some creative freedom to experience the creation of a language for themselves.
Note: The cuneiform characters used in this assignment are not actually cuneiform symbols, although similar. Cuneiform, like other symbol languages, is not in reality based on one symbol per letter in our alphabet as this assignment sets it up.
This folder includes instruction on how to complete the assignment, all assignment materials, as well as images of letters and words in cuneiform so that you can personalize your messages if you don't want to use the messages that I have already created for you.
This item is included in the Early Civilizations and Ancient Mesopotamia Unit zip file which is $7.00.
