Creating an Authentic Summative Assessment Task
for International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
This item is an organizer, aimed at helping teachers with the construction of a solid, meaningful summative assessment task, project or product. Once completed, the task can be used for the assessment portion in the PYP unit planner (section 2).
The organizer can be used by individual teachers or completed collaboratively by grade level teams or subject areas.
The organizer is formatted around the acronym GRASPS.
G- Goal (What are you wanting students to achieve?)
R- Role (What role will students be taking on as they complete their project/product?)
A- Audience (Who is the target audience that the students are creating for or presenting to?)
S-Situation (What is the situation, scenario or problem that students are to address?)
P- Product (What product will the student construct for their audience?)
S-Standards (What does a successful product look like or contain? What criteria must students meet?)
Each prompt includes sentences stems and ideas for teachers to use as they work through the creation process.
This item also includes five different teacher friendly evaluation tools that will enable teachers or teams to check the quality of the created assessment task.
Four teacher completed sample charts from different grade levels have been included to refer to.
