Instead of hanging up a pre-made alphabet, I have my students create the pictures. Each child creates the picture and label for 1 or 2 letters depending on class size. They work on this activity at Literacy Centers in September. In January they redo the pictures, and add a sentence about their picture. This process gives them ownership of the alphabet, and when we are done there are 26 words they know how to write.
I print the letters on cardstock and laminate. The students draw their pictures on white construction paper and we tape it to the alphabet card.
