The character mashup asks students to pick a Halloween costume for a character and support their ideas. In this creative activity students are tasked with pairing a character from your novel study or their independent reading with another character, a historical figure, or a modern day person. Students must provide text evidence, support their ideas with a rationale, and use the "STEAL" (speech, thoughts, effect on others, actions, and looks) method of characterization to support their choice. This is could easily be used as a cross-curricular activity with a history class and could be adapted for lower or upper levels. I have provided a student example, template of the activity, and instructions.
