This hands on Geometry Project will have your students using their creativity to construct a critter and calculate his surface area and volume. I have had much success with this project over the years and provide sample past projects on my website: http://www.meghanbenson.com
Included in this PDF download is a project description with mastery objective, timeline with dates to be filled in by the instructor, clear instructions for students, all worksheets needed to complete the project, a detailed rubric for students, and a link to my website for example projects.
Students should understand proportions and similarity prior to completing this project as well as how to calculate surface area and volume. I use this project each year when teaching the unit on Surface Area and Volume.
