What an excellent, fun activity worksheet! Attached in this "zip" file is also a detailed copy of the answer key.
The front page of the worksheet is intended as a "do now" assignment. These seven Do Now problems include a wide range of skills; from simplifying expressions and using the distributive property to identifying the area of squares and triangles (these formulas are provided) given a figure.
Each skill seen on the front side of the worksheet is directly tied to the backside of the worksheet, which is the discovery portion (students can work on this with a partner). This is very convenient as students are able to simply flip their paper back and forth to see the connections necessary to advance in each problem on the discovery side. The discovery section of the worksheet asks six questions; this is a very easy and visual way for students to figure out the Pythagorean Theorem equation all on their own!
I use this worksheet every year to introduce the Pythagorean Theorem and I have found this to be an extremely successful worksheet; everything is scaffholded and organized in perfect order for students to follow on their own.
