I created the individual book report project to help struggling readers become more involved in enjoying books that interest them. The project has been extremely successful.
Students love the fact that they can choose the book they want to read, work at their own pace, and ultimately end up with their own creation that they designed. I love it because my students are reading and thinking about the books they are reading.
I have had the most success using iBooks Author for the creation piece of the project, but there are always several students who prefer to type it up with word processing software, such as Microsoft Word, or Pages. Student’s can also opt to handwrite and illustrate it using pen and paper.
The flexibility of the project meets the needs of all learners. Accountability is placed onto the students who track their own progress throughout the project.
