I also refer to this lesson as "writing a book backwards". Your students “unknowingly” illustrate a story before they write it. They begin with several different lines, turn them into illustrations, then write a complete story to go with the illustrations. This creative writing project is designed to encourage the students to “think outside of the box” from how they are used to writing and illustrating stories. It enhances problem solving skills, abstract thinking and creative writing. This a very fun way to engage the kids when writing!
