These ten creative Math projects will change the way Math is delivered and perceived in the school by crossing curriculum boundaries and forming a link with the real world at the same time.
The projects allow and motivate the students to explore their Math selves in a variety of ways, get them thinking about Math outside the classroom, add creativity to Math, make Math a visible and vibrant part of the school, and promote the acquisition of a variety of technological skills.
Some of the projects are very much based directly in the Math curriculum; others are simply a highly creative way of looking at Math that is never usually done, while still emphasizing the need for quality content and making the Math classroom a fun and stimulating place to be.
Each of the projects has been tested in the classroom with students and comes ready with the project description that students receive and the criteria for the teacher for marking. If all the teacher does is print, photocopy, and distribute the project that they would like to use with their class, it will work well as the projects have already gone through the fire of student critique and execution.
In addition, a photo of quality work done by students has been included with some of the projects to serve as an example of what can be achieved.
In this particular volume are the projects:
- Around the Universe (Circumference)
- New Math Dictionary (Terms)
- Lake (Volume)
- Odometer (Expanded Form/Place Value)
- Quilt (Geometry)
- Routine (Data Management)
- Snakes & Ladders (Integers)
- Speed Limit (Rates)
The projects are a great addition to any middle-school Math program with the convenience of being able to adapt them electronically to suit your particular needs.
