UPDATED! In this activity, students analyze a speaker using a combination of illustrations and textual evidence. They consider the speaker and her/her purpose through various lenses -- the different appeals (ethos, pathos, logos), the particular audience, the persona the speaker adopts, and the devices used to get across his/her message. Included in this activity are the following:
- Detailed and easy-to-follow instructions with examples and student samples.
- A rubric
- A list of strong verbs for rhetorical analysis
- A resource sheet for writing thesis statements and assertions for rhetorical analysis
- A drafting sheet
Feel free to use the Q and A function if you have any questions. I'm happy to respond!
