Included: Newspaper Example, Elizabethan Vocabulary Sheet, Five topic information sheets
(The Plague, Shakespeare Performs For the Queen!, No Women Allowed!, Shakespeare’s London, The Globe Burns!)
This activity serves several purposes.
• Better acquaint students with Shakespeare’s language
• Better acquaint students with events that happened during Shakespeare’s time in London.
Each group is given an activity packet. Packets contain an Elizabethan vocabulary list, one of the topic fact sheets, and any other information/pictures you deem valuable to the project.
Students write a short newspaper article on the topic found in their packet. Encourage students to pepper their article with as much Elizabethan English as possible. Encourage students to draw an accompanying picture for their article.
Have students share their articles and pictures with the class. Compile the pictures and articles to create a newspaper.
