Narrative writing is made easy with this story writing unit for second, third and fourth grade! This pack is designed to be assembled into a Story Booklet for students as they work to plan and write a draft of their creative writing story.
Each booklet should contain: a story cover, two planning pages, 2-4 rough copy pages, and an editing checklist to complete the story!
All about the Story Writing Pack:
•Student Book Covers – Two black and white pages to be used as covers for the student writing books. (One featuring a girl, and the other a boy)
•Planning Pages - Student worksheets can be be used both as guided lessons, or to allow students to plan their own stories independently. Planning focuses first on developing character(s), setting, problem and solution. Then, students place these elements into a simple story with a beginning, middle, and end format.
•Rough Copy Pages – Use these pages to draft a rough copy of student stories. Each rough copy page has a mini-checklist at the bottom to encourage students to check their writing for capitals, periods, interesting details, and spelling.
•Editing Checklist – Student checklists to help to guide independent and peer-editing in the classroom. Use this checklist to make teachers’ work easier, and have students’ work mostly corrected before it is teacher-edited. Or, use it as a guide when students conference with the teacher.
•Good Copy Pages – A space to write a final draft! When all of the edits have been made, this is a space to write a final copy. This version has a space for illustrations, and does not include an editing checklist.
•Rubric – An optional student friendly 4-point rubric to guide marking. For each of the four categories, assign 1, 2, 3, or 4, starts based on mastery and evidence of that skill.
