I brainstorm with students a list of descriptive words...such as juicy, scary, tiny, enormous, etc... I pick one of the words as my example and use it in a sentence. For example, "The apple is juicy." However when I get to juicy, I write it so the letters looks like they are dripping with juice. Then I draw a picture to go with my words. I then have students go back to their desk and brainstorm with their neighbor a word they would like to be creative with. When they have their word, they are ready to work!
