The purpose of this activity is to engage your students by having them create a funny, interesting, serious quote from a famous quote. Students are asked to rewrite a part of a quote to make it “somewhat” their own. They can also create their own quote using the template provided.
Included in Product:
-Teacher Tips Handout (2-pages)
-50 Famous Quotes (25-pages)
-Create Your Own Template (1-page)
-2 Quote Examples (digital)
There are 50 famous quotes provided. You will need to print these off in color and cut the pages in half.
To begin, have a class discussion about quotes. Ask your students if they can share a famous quote. If possible, show your students a short video containing some funny or inspiring quotes.
Inform your students that they will be choosing a famous quote and rewriting part of it to make the original quote sort of silly or interesting.
Students will also be asked to illustrate the quotes.
Make sure your students put their names on their famous “funny” quote.
The examples provided were made digitally, but your students will need to use colored pencils or markers for color.
Research- Have your students research the author of the quote that they chose. Students can then write a short biography on the back of their paper or they can type it up using a technology device.
Community Building- Have your students share their quotes and give compliments to one another.
Class “Quote Party”- Have a spontaneous party to celebrate all of the creative quotes. Students can share their quotes at this time as well (and if you want, provide a healthy snack for your students or provide them with a special type of pencil).
Bulletin Board- The quotes can make a very interesting bulletin board in your room. If your students have information about the author of the quote, that can be displayed as well.
Create Own- Have students write their own quotes using the template provided. Then they can exchange and make a “funny” quote with a picture.
