What do they see? What can they hear? What do they feel?
Use the Brainstorm worksheet (page 3) to create a list of ideas. To help students focus their ideas for writing, have them circle or highlight 1-2 ideas from each list that they would like to include in their final stories. Have them reveal their discovery on the line at the bottom of the page.
Use the final copy templates (pages 4-5) to transfer brainstorming ideas to a creative story.
Use the blank My Magic Egg worksheet (page 6) to have students draw their magic egg or a scene from their own creative story. Use the My Magic Egg templates (pages 7-8) to design a magic egg. We copy onto construction or cardstock and haul out the craft supplies some years. Others, we just haul out the crayons. Cut the front egg out (page 5) and design. You may want to cut a crack across the egg (cut it in half side to side, across the middle) and attach a brad so the egg can open and close. Then, use the back egg (page 6) to draw what’s inside the magic egg and attach to page 5 with the brad (Do not cut the back egg in half.). As they open their magic egg, the inside reveals a picture of what they found inside.
Mount the picture/egg and story onto 12x18 construction paper (Portrait style). Use gluestick to adhere the picture to the top and staple the story pages to the bottom so they may be read by flipping the pages up from the bottom of the loose pages.
