Is there anyone else out there? Engage your students in the mystery of a recently (2015) discovered exoplanet and unleash creativity, curiosity and wonder. Using the scaffolded guide, 'Star Gazer', students collaborate to consider a 'day in the life' on Kepler 452b - earth's 'cousin'. Although this active lesson can stand alone, it is the introduction to an exciting, Inquiry Based, program called Kepler's STARS where, through role play, students become citizens of Kepler452b and vicariously experience forced evacuations, commonalities in diversity, working together for solutions and so very much more.
Harnessing the Unknown includes a brief Kepler452b intro video, quick facts, 'Star Gazer' - sheet of prompts, rubric and live links to websites to launch ideas. This lesson is a perfect lead-in to recently discovered exoplanets similar to earth.
Harnessing the Unknown is a role play activity designed for students to digest facts about Kepler452b, suspend doubt, fire up the imagination in conjunction with classmates and create an imaginative 'day in the life' on Kepler452b paragraph.
