In creative writing or with narrative writing, students will need to create characters. They should not stereotype or build flat character though. This creative writing activity includes a teacher sheet, student sheet, five brainstorming activities, and a rubric. Everything except the pictures are editable.

You can download this as a Powerpoint to use in your classroom, share it with students on Google Classroom, or print the pages if needed.

Specifically, this activity includes:

♦ A teacher directions page.

♦ A student directions page.

♦ A rubric.

♦ Five pictures with different prompts asking students to consider various aspects of a character. You can see these prompts on the cover and preview. Sample answers are included.

Typically, the creative writing assignment takes an entire class period to show and work with students. Then, students take another day or two to create their characters.

This creative writing lesson will help students see many sides of building a character.
