Students love this challenging activity! It pairs well with other Constrained Writing handouts, too. Make a unit of it!
In this activity, students reflect on role verbs play in our writing and review the difference between action and state of being verbs. They read a short passage that demonstrates plot development while avoiding the use of verbs. Then, students attempt to write their own passages devoid of verbs.
If you want a fun, engaging way to review verbs with your students, this is a MUST. This lesson can be used with just about any grade level and ability. It's also effective in ELL settings.
