Pictures and brainstorming prompt to inspire students to write about their favourite place. Encourages them to consider all their senses while looking for language to describe this place that is special to them.
You can then use the writing for a spoken communication task. Get them to swap texts with a partner, read each other's and ask follow-up questions about it. This usually generates some nice discussion, and reinforces the vocab they have chosen in both their mind and their peer's.
Great for all lower-level ESL learners, and also young students just starting to write short descriptive compositions.
