This PDF guides your students through the steps of creating a character (monster) and then fabricating a story about him/her. The assignment allows for individuals to work alone or with a partner. There is a rubric included.
While this assignment can be modified to be used with younger grades, the rubric asks that students include examples of direct and indirect characterization. The goal is for students to have fun but still be practicing their literature vocabulary.
The lesson should take about 2 days to complete. If you would like the students to share their stories, you may want to tag on some extra time.
