Students love the beautiful pictures. Includes lesson plan and activities for first lesson and task cards for follow up lessons.
This resource is designed to help students improve their creative writing skills by thinking about their senses and how they experience different natural settings.
This creative writing resource comprises comprises:
1. A lesson plan for the first lesson to introduce the idea of creating mood and atmosphere through the description of a natural setting - a wood.
2. Word cards for the first lesson activity.
3. For follow up lessons - differentiated task cards (two to a page for cost-efficient copying) for five different natural settings - mountains, volcano, swamp, stormy sea, calm sea.
Fully-scaffolded - the cards contain vocabulary for the setting in three columns - nouns, descriptive vocabulary and verbs. The students are encouraged to imagine the setting, think of some words for themselves but then can also use some of the provided vocabulary in their writing.
Semi-scaffolded - the cards contain a few suggested vocab items but the student is encouraged either alone or in a pair to imagine the setting and think of most of the words for themselves.
Independent - the cards contain no suggested vocab items. The students must alone or in a pair imagine the scenario and think of suitable vocab items for themselves.
These task cards can easily be incorporated into suitable topic/theme lessons or literature lessons. Lovely displays can be created using the cards, students art work and their creative writing.
