Squiggle writing is a fun creative activity that students love. They turn the squiggle at the top of the page into a picture and then write the story that goes with it before colouring their illustration. Depending on your focus, this can be done as a narrative, a description, or even a retell, procedure or recount genre piece.
I have used this activity with students from Reception to year 5 and all enjoyed sharing their imagination with others at the culmination of the lesson.
This booklet contains 10 squiggles which allow each student to create their own story book over a term.
