Help your middle school and high school students learn to generate fictional stories using newspaper articles to jump start their creativity. Too many times secondary students are writing to the "test" and end up losing their creativity in pursuit of the more technical aspects of writing. This lesson plan allows for students to start with a newspaper article instead of a writing prompt. It allows for students to decide how much or how little of the article to utilize as they create their story.
Students will learn the complete writing process while they learn to write longer drafts of fictional stories. They will also learn character development, develop plot lines, and practice peer editing/revising.
