Creative writing with values and favorite recipe
Common Core Writing Standards: 3, 5
This writing is intended to be a fun activity to use with your students. It starts by having your students think of their favorite recipe from home. Maybe they like their mom's famous hamburger noodle hot dish, their grandma's delicious blueberry pies, or their sister's homemade pizza!
Students are asked to write down the recipe and bring it to school to be typed up and shared with the other students. If students can't find a recipe at home or at grandma's place, they are encouraged to look on the Internet.Your student's recipe should include the ingredients and step-by-step directions on how to make it.
After that piece, students are to think of a value recipe that that they are interested in writing a recipe about such as friendship, honestly, courage, generosity, responsibility, respect, compassion, perseverance, cooperation, kindness, truthfulness, etc.
Students are encouraged to write step-by-step directions on the value that they decide on. This is a 2-page document (letter home and a detailed direction page).
