Product Description

Help students evaluate Web and print resources for credibility, accuracy and reliability by answering a set of twenty questions. The answers are marked yes, somewhat, or no on an easy-to-use chart, resulting in an overall rating of credibility. Includes a model. A handy Glossary defines all terms used in the questions and on the chart, such as biased and verified. Useful for research or any informative or explanatory writing assignment. It is aligned with CCSS to 'assess the credibility and accuracy of each source' when gathering information. Includes handouts on avoiding plagiarism, in-text citations, and works cited formats also required by W.8 and WHST.8. Perfect for all subjects in middle school!

The assessment questions were created using suggestions from many Information Literacy experts. Question topics range from verifiability and author qualifications to bias and publication date. Includes tips for locating this information on websites.

Packet includes:

--complete student instructions with an introduction to this life skill

--20 questions for students to answer on the chart, grouped by sponsor/author, content, and date

--chart with columns for evaluating six sources

--sample chart filled-in for two websites and one book

--complete glossary of all terms used in the questions in student-friendly language

--suggestions for assessment

--teacher tips based on experiences with this activity

--list of Common Core Standards

Buyers say:

-Made this difficult concept much easier to understand!

-I was struggling with teaching good vs. bad resources. This spells it out.

Note: several other products contain the plagiarism and MLA guides. This biography report also contains a much shorter version of the credibility chart, but it does not have the glossary and other details.
