What do you call an Irish Spider?
Paddy Long Legs!
You can find more jokes like these in this huge (240 pages) unit, Creepy Crawlies!
This unit is all about bugs and insects, perfect for Spring! Your young learners (K-2) will enjoy becoming Jr. Entomologists (necklaces included!) and participating in too-many-to-count activities about creepy crawlies. The unit is broke down into 8 days which can easily turn into two weeks with everything included. Each day is carefully explained with each activity explained in sequence. There is a daily learning journal included for students to record their learning.
In the areas of Balanced Literacy, students will be able to reference both the picture and word walls included, while they complete one of the many writing activities included. There are mini-books, an emergent reader, classroom venn diagram and word work with nouns & adjectives for your youngsters, all bug related. There's a song to help them learn the major parts of an insect, along with bonus trivia question cards for daily fact learning!
Your students will enjoy the opportunities for Math growth while constructing a classroom graph (all pieces included), spider equations and butterfly symmetry. They will create a Crazy Bug that must include 4 shapes. These are all accompanied by printables that are easy-prep and fuss free.
Students will be artistic with the craftivity shown, My Life as a Bug, where they are trapped in a bug habitat! There are three classroom books with color covers and writing printables for the students to complete.
The Jr. Entomologists will be able to write Bug Reports in which technology is used for research. There's one entire day dedicated to centers and games, all based on Kinder and First Grade CCSS. These would also be fun for the Second Grade Student as well. There are over 8 games and centers, including Unscramble the Room and Alphabug (board game.)
As a bonus, I've included a section of Interactive Notebook Foldables for 15 bugs/insects, with photo-illustrated directions for assembly! These can be used even if you don't use INB, just glue onto construction paper folded in half or use a file folder.
With all these materials, you could easily extend this unit into weeks of learning. Your Jr. Entomologists will be "crawling" with learning knowledge!
