Your students are being given their own turkey flocks; but they'll have to earn each turkey! Perfect for Thanksgiving centers, or anytime, students will enjoy this fun game while practicing their parts of speech!
Turkey cards go in a pile face down, and students take turns drawing one, identifying its part of speech (noun, adjective, verb, adverb, or preposition), and adding it to their flock if it's the part of speech they're collecting. Easy to differentiate
with two different instruction sheets, a suggested challenge level, and five more ways to differentiate described in the teacher notes! Easy to prep
, just print the instructions and word lists that function as answer keys, and print and cut the cards, which are all in straight lines. Done! Plenty of variety
with 20 cards in EACH part of speech, for 100 total turkey word cards, plus enough different ways to play suggested that your students won't get tired of the game before you're ready to change to a different center!
: 100% Spanish, and suitable for dual language, dual immersion, bilingual, and native Spanish-speaking classrooms
How It Works:
A student chooses a card, reads the word, and decides which part of speech it is. They can check using the word lists. In version A, they keep the card only if it's the part of speech they decided to collect in the beginning. In version B, they keep it if it's their category, or give it to the player who is collecting that category if it isn't. When trick cards come up, they follow the instructions, and the game continues until the Baked Turkeys! card is chosen! One challenge is for students to use the word in a sentence before adding the turkey to their flock; make it a sentence with any theme, or one related to Thanksgiving!
Aligned to CCSS and TEKS standards for grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 (see preview for specific standards).
With the options for differentiation, this game can be used easily in grades 1-4. Vocabulary is kept simple so students can focus on the part of speech rather than decoding the word or learning its meaning.
Game, perfect for literacy and language centers, guided reading groups, or any game time!
Light color on the instructions pages, and the turkey is in color on the cards. The word is NOT written on top of the graphic, so that it can be read easily. This resource will print well in grayscale as well, and won't use up your ink either way!
