I hope you and your students enjoy this “Cricket in Times Square” New York City Brochure Project! This activity is a great way for students to connect their knowledge of the book while using resources in a fun and creative way! Students are expected to conduct some research using books and/or the internet to find places in and around New York City that would entice Chester to stay (rather than go back to Connecticut). This project works best as a culmination to the book and to reflect on the characters within the story. I have included a grading criteria sheet to make grading this project simple or if you prefer, just have students do it for fun! There is also a full color teacher sample for your convenience. This sample is an easy way to give students a model of expectations.
All students need to complete this project is:
*A piece of white construction paper/copy paper folded into thirds
*Some basic art supplies (crayons, markers, and/or colored pencils)
*Books/internet for investigation
RF.4 - Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.
RF.4a - Read grade-level text with purpose and understanding.
RL.3 Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character's thoughts, words, or actions).
W.8 - Recall relevant information from experiences or gather relevant information from print and digital sources.
