This is an activity that my students love! Students will perform a historical "crime scene investigation" on the famous Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Students use a variety of primary sources including photographs and witness testimony to piece together a narrative of what actually happened the day of the fire. This is a great way to kick off a unit on the working conditions during the Industrial revolution or the reforms made during the progressive era. After completing the activity students will better understand the poor working conditions during the time period and understand the need for trade unions. I have also included a link to current events as students will notice the similarities between the Triangle Shirtwaist fire and the Bangladesh factory fire of 2012. An answer key is also provided. Enjoy!
