This strategy helps students slow down and analyze the text they are reading, which in turn helps them build critical reading and comprehension skills. Students will be learning and practicing defining unknown terms, determining main ideas, and making connections with the text. Teachers can create a unit out of this activity by teaching each point individually and then assessing the students by having them demonstrate each point through an assigned reading. Or this assignment can be used to assess a students comprehension of a reading assignment and can be used in multiple subject matters.
