This lesson starts with an interactive two-day exercise that requires students to think critically. It is hands on and super fun! It progresses to reading for information (talking to the text); finding evidence from an article to support an opinion. It has a writing assignment sheet for the unit: Should the US help poor countries with foreign aid? It is a persuasive piece with a graphic organizer to write a business letter to the president. It can be used for many levels. I have used this lesson many times and students love it. It is a heavy topic, but they really get into it.
