Students must learn to Speak Up! and become proactive self-advocates for their own medical care. This unit guides students to manage the process of informed consent so they can have the best medical communication, clarity and care possible. Critical thinking skills and processes are infused in each case study, role play, writing/communication prompt, graphic design task, and more.
This unit works for Health or independent living courses as well as a very content-rich, pragmatic unit to hone critical thinking skills.
Most activities are designed to be introduced with a group. The follow up activities for independent or cooperative group work use a variety of media and resources.
No medical expertise required to teach or learn with this unit.
