This is a student-led daily journal assignment wherein the students find a video (from youtube or similar) that provokes critical thinking. Each day, one or two students lead the video viewing by focusing the viewing on a thought-provoking question that they raise. Then, students respond to the video in their journals. Their responses are encouraged to be interpretative, analytical, and evaluative in nature so that they learn to be thinking viewers instead of entertained consumers in this age where video "texts" are more prominent than traditional print texts. This assignment is specifically tailored for the Ontario ENG3U curriculum with a corresponding Learning Goal; however, it is easily edited to suit any classroom.
