Creative and Critical Thinking in 30 minutes, is a dynamic activity that can be used as a formative assessment, indoor recess, stress buster, teambuilding, and for building critical and creative thinking skills. Students from grade 3 through grade 5 will utilize brainstorming skills such as: deferring judgment, piggybacking, forced relationships, brain drawing, categories and SCAMPER to identify problems and solutions.
This lesson is based upon everyday stressors that students face such as: school, homework, friends, family, the CRCT, and time. Students will work together to determine focus problem then identify a unique solution in a strictly timed manner.
It's fun and can be adapted with using any of the CCGPS. Just replace the topic of 'stress' with the American Revolution, Simple Machines, Current Events or fun stuff like creating a new toy. You can observe how well students know a topic quickly and in a really fun way all the while building critical and creative thinking.
Lesson can be extended into a project that includes marketing surveys, graphing, statistics, commercial presentation, and more.
The children will beg to do it again! Check back for more - I am just getting started!
