Although many students (and maybe a few teachers) think of “movie day” as nap time, using films in the classroom is a great way to encourage critical thinking and analytical skills. Multimedia also introduces students to cultural history and literature etc. in a way that is especially helpful to visual and audio learners. The following follow along question and answer word document sheet was originally constructed to partner with the movie Salt of the Earth (1954) but it provides a template that social studies, history, and literature instructors can effortlessly adapt to any film or age level.
Students can then use this guided learning work sheet to actively engage during movie time, study for exams, write papers or interrogate other films or media.
