This is a cross-curricular lesson designed to make students in a math class understand why it is important to be strong English students as well. The lesson is an independent lesson designed to have students discover the overlap between the subjects and the common skills they will use in both classes. I believe that it could be easily tweaked for English teachers to use to show why math is important to their students.
I had students complete this assignment on their own and then we spent an entire class period (~55 minutes) discussing their responses, walking through the similarities and differences between the two content areas.
