This was created for grade 8 geometry students. This was placed in the unit learning Cavalieri's Principle, volumes of three-dimensional shapes, and (of couse) cross sectional areas. Cross sectioning was difficult for my students to understand, so I created a mini lab for them to get some hands on experience. I had created some 3-dimensional objects using molding clay and them drew lines created the cross sectioning plane on them. Students were working with partners to analyze the two dimensional shape made by the cross section. This worksheet also gave students a place to practice their use of terminology by naming the shapes and practicing their knowledge of volume formulas by measuring and finding volumes.
