Using ciphers to protect secrets has gone on for centuries. From the Ancient Egyptians to World War II to the modern-day Internet, elements of cryptography play many different roles in society. Of course there are tremendous connections to Matrix Algebra. In this 21st Century Math Project, students will practice matrix operations and uncode secret messages.
In all there are three assignments and one final puzzle project. Included are:
In "Code Breaking" students will practice matrix operations and basic substitution ciphers with no inverses.
In “Finger Lickin’ Code” students will solve 8 encrypted matrices with inverses. A famous chicken organization has lost the recipe for their top secret crust and the rival fast-food chain is trying to gain the competitive advantage.
In "Where in the World is Carmen Terrahaute?" student will solve a series to matrices with included QR codes. The secret finale will be a enjoyable result for all ages!
